There's a damage floor, so you'll be doing more than 1 damage a hit for most of the game even with base STR. There's a few esoteric worldbuilding elements (like the metaphysics of the heart, the nature of Kingdom Hearts, Heartless and Nobodies, etc), but they're nothing any more complex than what you'd find in, say, your average Tales game.
